I mixed concrete with three 25 kg bags of ballast using a hand mixer, a trowel and a large bucket. Two thirds of a bag of ballast went into each batch. Mix the water and cement to make a slurry, add the ballast, then mix with a flat ended hand trowel. Obviously for large amounts, hire a proper mixer.

Just trying to remember the mix i used two years ago with a Patio. Don't think i needed sand just the hardcore with cement.

I was in hospital when i was 5 years old. The bed next door had an older but young guy who showed me a way to solve this. I have never forgotten that sequence. It is different to your way but it works. 5 years old and I remembered it from 70 years ago.

Will be better to use a round shovel or a hoe. I have a two wheel barrel, that is better for balance. I mix a 60 lbs or his equivalent at the time to make it easy on your lower back, I like to use an old military shovel. The one you fold!

What sort of sand? Sharp sand? Soft sand? I always get confused with different types of sand.

I had a game called "IQ" as a kid that was like this, but also had options like a green peg and the idea was to not only solve it but have the green peg the only one left in the center. Eventually it's easy to figure out.

I have a similar Peg Solitaire set. Mine does not have the brass inserts it has divots drilled into the wood. I have it permanently laid out in the lounge. I have spent more time looking under the couch and furniture for the ironies then playing the game. Thanks for the tutorial. I'll give it a try.

Born and bred on the Island remember being taken there on the beach as a kid by my parents in the early 60s, took my kids in the early 80s and my grandkids in the 2010 onwards still like going for a walk around there
